   With last years winners Nu Tones automatically qualifying for the Panorama 1999 Finals and not contending in the Semies; 20 steelbands will compete in the Semi Finals following the Tobago Zone preliminaries which surprisingly put 3 Tobago bands in the Semies to the loss of 3 close contenders.

   Tobago’s Buccooneers, Carib Dixieland and Our Boys now replace; Melodians who tied with re-emerging hopefuls Casablanca Players Symphony; and for the second year running place newly sponsored InnCoGen Pamberi first outside the barrier, by only half a point this time, despite their well received crackling and recently best ever performance in the East Zone preliminaries.
