National Panorama Steelband Semi Finals 1999
CONVENTIONAL SteelbandsSemi Final Results - Conventional
Posted - 8th February 1999
InnCoGen Pamberi made an unexpected entry into the National Panorama Conventional Steelbands Semi-finals after a legal battle that entertained that a judge had fallen asleep (not really surprising considering the arduous hours of the competitions) during their preliminary presentation for the East Zone. Their consequent performance in these semies strengthens their claim to some degree.
Bradley stamped his authority on proceedings when, using hands instead of drum-sticks and showing his right calf this time, he cohered WITCO Desperadoes into top position for the coming finals. Len Boogsie Sharpe must be making it into the record books for the semies; having three bands in the show with Petrotrin Phase II Pan Groove, BWEE Invaders and the late comer Pamberi; two of which qualify, enabling him to match Bradley in the finals. Jit with his two, AmoCo Renegades and Tornadoes Steel Orchestra, could manage only one qualifier; whereas Beverly Griffith suffered a loss when his Carib Tokyo and Carib Dixieland fell out of the running.
Though making a good show of it, the three Tobago bands Tobago Buccooneers, Our Boys and Carib Dixieland, failed to make the finals and were to only bands to show a drop in points overall.
The top 4 dazzled, and Starlift showed remarkable improvement. Laventille Sounds Specialists may have wopped Tokyo from down the road, had they worked more on the first half of their tune. Pamberi, Tornadoes and Deltones were memorable.
11 Conventional steelbands from the semi-finals will join Nu Tones for Saturdays National Panorama Finals 1999.
