[Abridged by tojo]STILL BASKING in its glory, having won the 1999 national Panorama title, joint nine-time champions WITCO Desperadoes have copped the Carnival steelbands ON DE ROAD competitions prize valued at TT$50,000.
The win was a convincing one as the celebrated Laventille-based band [nearly] earned top scores at the three competition venues; for a total of 797 points.

- City Hall 343
- Downtown 269
[They were however pipped by Exodus who made 347 at City Hall]
In second place was the East Zone champion Exodus with 781 points; followed third by Neal & Massy Trinidad All Stars with 768 points.
Silver Stars, which this year made its Panorama comeback after some two decades out of the event, ran away with the
BERGER PAINTS Las Lap title among Conventional Bands; while Scrunters Pan Groove won the Single Pan Bands category.Also, Silver Stars jointly earned first place at the Carnival MONDAY NITE ON DE ROAD
CARIB '99 Ole Time Calypso competition with Courts Laventille Sound Specialist. St James Tripolians topped in the Single Pan Band category at that event.The first prize for the
BERGER PAINTS Las Lap was TT$8,000 (TT$7,000 in cash and TT$1,000 worth of paint) for Conventional Band and the Single Pan Band TT$1,200 (TT$800 cash and TT$400 in paint); while the CARIB '99 Ole Time Calypso competition had a first prize of TT$3,000 for Conventional Band and TT$700 for the Single Pan Band.At Adam Smith Square Panatics steelband from Deigo Martin took home the TT$3,000 first prize for Conventional Bands while Nuttin Big Pan Groove earned the Single Pan Bands prize of TT$1,000.
