Carlos Rose was first associated with the steelband movement in 1954 and started playing pan with Symphonettes Steel Orchestra.

Carlos, together with many of his young peers, founded and developed the Flamingoes Steel Orchestra situated on St John Road, St Augustine. The band had in its early years five main people - Carlos, Bob and Peter Theroulde, Dawn and Ken Wilson.

Carlos worked as a technician at 610 Radio; and was the captain of the band since it was formed in March 1962.

The band took part in Panorama for the first time in 1971 and made it to the finals playing Queen of the Bands by Sparrow. At this stage the arranger was Tyrone Noriega.

Carlos placed special emphasis on youth and cultural development at a time when drugs and evil forces were at work in the society.

Rose had been involved with the steelband movement also at the administrative level. He was for several years a prominent member of Pan Trinbago [where] he [variously] held the post of Chairman, Secretary and Education Officer.

Carlos led the band [Flamingoes] to Panorama East Zone Title in 1977 and 1978; and earlier in 1973 at the Steelband Music Festival [where the] band placed 4th in the finals of the "B" category.

Carlos was one who had advocated that a Band of the Year Competition among steelbands be organised with prizes for the Best King and Queen as well. This, he thought, would have greatly improved the all round standard of Mas.

Many years ago Carlos left this world. His contribution will always be treasured. His band Flamingoes is at present [1996] much smaller than years ago.
