Gideon Maxime has had his historical essays and writings, on cultural topics of Trinidad and Tobago, published while variously working as a journalist for Newsday and The Independent; both local Trinidad and Tobago newspapers.
On radio, for two years he presented Our Cultural Heroes on Caribbean Tempo The Real McCoy! FM 105; then went to Lets Turn Each Other On FM 100 for a short series called Vintage Steel, which was about 'Old Time' Trinidad and Tobago steelbands.
He presently researches and presents cultural programs for radio Power 102 FM.

To date, Gideon has also authored four books that chronicle various activities of the steelbands in Trinidad and Tobago.

In 1997, Gideon's fourth book, Pan through the Years (1952 - 1996) was published.
A valuable and well researched compendium of all the results of all the steelband festivals and competitions between the years shown. There is more here. There are notes on the rules and information about the festivals or competitions themselves; lists of the judges and adjudicators and notes on their addresses to the audiences and further comments; names of the steelbands and the tunes they played, in many cases extending to preliminary round participants as well; the points they made, prises they received and the test pieces they had to play.
Some brief biographies of notable pan players, arrangers, and composers [Many of which are included with these pages] are included as a tribute.

Without a computer or word processor remotely in sight; Gideon has performed a remarkable feat in compiling this book. When one considers how diffuse the information, how lax the custodians of many of these old records in Trinidad and Tobago could be, he achievement is all the more staggering; even if one excludes the care and dedication to the subject that he has shown.
He compartments all events, as they occur, year by year. This has preserved the historical perspective in such an extraordinary way, that one walks upon the stairs of time in climbing this banister of years to 1996.

This soft covered "magazine", as it presents itself; published with some support from local company advertising; sits, together with his other works, on the desk of every local Newspaper journalist who writes about steelbands.

This book is a must for every steelband enthusiast.

  Gideon dedicates this work to:
...all panmen and women who over the years have given overwhelming devotion to the steelpan and have brought pleasure to all.
