Pre Tobago - Combined Results 1998
South & Central - Eastern - Northern Preliminaries & Zonal Finals
CONVENTIONAL & TRADITIONAL SteelbandsProcessing the combined South & Central, Eastern and Northern Panorama preliminary results shows that Nu Tones and Exodus beat Renegades on points over the three day events.
Up to this point; 47 Conventional Steelbands and 45 Traditional or 'Pan round the Neck' Steelbands played in the competitions. Totalling around 35 hours or more of show time for some of the officials. The bands each played an intense 10 minute session; the larger conventional bands each taking about 25 minutes to set up, perform and disband the stage.
The results to date put some of the favourites of the South Zone bands an tender hooks in anticipation of the Tobago bands performances that could jeopardise their chances to perform in the Panorama Finals. Their apprehension was centred on the Panorama criteria set by Pan Trinbago. The Tobago Panorama Preliminaries and Zonal Finals take place tomorrow on the 10th of February.
Pan Trinbago set the Panorama Finals stage as follows: 15 Bands would be chosen from the results of the combined Zonal preliminaries; with the further stipulation that of these, the finalists of each Zone would automatically have a place, so would last years (1997) Finalist - in this case Renegades - the rest being chosen by order of merit from their scores.
For a little pre calculation: Of the 15 bands - If 4 bands automatically qualify (include Tobago for this here) + Last years winner; 10 are left to be chosen. But as last years winner qualified 1st in their Zone this year - Renegades - then 11 are left to be chosen.
A glance at these interim Pre Tobago results shows that the 11th position in the order of merit is jointly held by San Fernandos 3rd placed Zonal Finalists Hatters and Skiffle Bunch. If two Tobago bands make more than 419 points, then they are out of it.
Additionally, if only one Tobago band makes more than 419 points, then the Panorama finals will actually have 16 bands; as both these San Fernando bands will have to be included.
If no Tobago bands make above 419 points; then the finals will also have 16 bands.
